Busch Gardens Williamsburg Experience Planner

Year: 2009

Busch Gardens needed a vacation-planning site created for Williamsburg, Virginia to showcase the destination’s world-renowned living history, theme parks, and diverse recreational and cultural attractions. Though Williamsburg, VA had its own visitor’s guide website, it was filled with so much information, it was hard to find anything. Busch Gardens wanted to invest in a tool to simplify the options, but cover a wide range of personas. The website had to provide a fun and interactive method for building an itinerary and drive awareness to the wide range of activities perfect for everyone.

The hero of the website, the Experience Planner is a simple, interactive way for visitors to the site and Williamsburg to make the most of their visit while learning about all what Williamsburg has to offer. I came up with a simple series of questions and categories of activities based on the designated interests provided by the user. Just like you would ask a friend what they would like to do on vacation and who’s going. From families looking for adventure to couples in need of a romantic getaway, the experience planner site simplified the overwhelming options and catered to the needs of prospective visitors.

I pitched and won this project for the Busch Entertainment Corp. team when I was at Momentum. I oversaw the project as the Digital Creative Director and actually did the art direction, user flow, and a lot of the production on this project. I did have some great Flash developers on the team bring this all to life.
