The new year usually brings various changes. This time, many of them concern motorists, and you should definitely know about them. Some of them can make your life easier and save you time. Others, however, will force you to dig deeper into your pockets. Let's therefore take a detailed look at all the changes on the roads in 2025.
Let's start with the positive news, which will surely please most motorists. The main one is that digitalization should make significant progress this year, and if all goes according to plan, the Transport Portal should offer many new features.
Technical inspection validity notification
One of them is a notification of the expiration of the technical inspection. You just need to set up a notification, and you will then receive timely information about the expiring inspection by email and SMS. This way, you don't have to check your documents and you will have plenty of time to arrange everything.
More accessible online services
The Transport Portal will also open up to companies, allowing them to better retrieve information about their vehicles and process ownership changes online when selling a car. This also applies to changes of operator.
All citizens will also be able to pay various administrative fees through this portal, and it will also be possible to apply for a new driving license through it. You will no longer have to pick it up in person - it can be sent to you by mail if you wish.
Digitalization and online sales
The trend of online car purchases is gaining momentum, thanks to enhanced digital viewing options, virtual reality, and interactive configurators. Buyers can select, finance, and insure a vehicle from the comfort of their home. Direct Auto offers this service and more. Some platforms now also offer a "try before you buy" service, where customers can test a car for a few days before a binding purchase.
New motorways, higher fees
The next piece of news is also pleasing. New sections of motorways were opened before Christmas, and another 100 kilometers of motorways and first-class roads should be completed during 2025. However, also because of this, the prices of motorway vignettes are rising. Not as much as last year (when the annual motorway vignette went up by CZK 800), but you will still feel it in your wallet.
The annual motorway vignette is increasing by CZK 140, the thirty-day one by CZK 30, the ten-day one by CZK 20, and the one-day one by CZK 10. The Ministry of Transport announces that it will increase the price again next year, and regular valorization will probably be completely common. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it - unless you start driving off the motorway network.
Motorway vignette price 2025
| Motorway vignette validity | 2024 | 2025 |
| 1 day | CZK 200 | CZK 210 |
| 10 days | CZK 270 | CZK 290 |
| 30 days | CZK 430 | CZK 460 |
| 1 year | CZK 2300 | CZK 2440 |
Note: the price of the motorway vignette is for vehicles with standard fuel.
Motorway vignette in operational lease
It's more advantageous for those who have, for example, a car on operational lease. If you arrange an operational lease car from Birne, the motorway vignette is already included in the price of the basic services. You also don't have to worry about mandatory liability insurance, comprehensive insurance, or roadside assistance. All of this is already pre-paid, and you can always use it if needed. You can then choose other premium services as you wish.
Changes for new drivers
If you don't have a driving license yet and would like to obtain one, you should prepare thoroughly for the driving school tests. This year, several dozens of new questions will be added, including animations. Furthermore, based on an expert medical opinion, people with mild autism spectrum disorder or hearing impairment can now also attend driving school. If they are medically fit, they too can obtain a driving license.
Last year's insurance changes still apply
When arranging mandatory liability insurance, you shouldn't be surprised that you won't receive a green card. Insurance companies no longer issue it. And at the same time, it is important to pay attention to paying the mandatory liability insurance on time. Since October, there has been an amendment to the law that forces motorists to pay on time, otherwise their car insurance will not come into effect. However, if you have a car on an operational lease from Birne, you don't have to stress about it - we will handle all the bureaucracy for you, and you can then just hit the road with a smile.
