Today, a car is a key tool for business. Whether you need to visit customers, deliver goods, or equip your team, without a vehicle, you lose time – and thus money. But when you apply for an operative lease with a traditional leasing company and receive a "denied" response, a problem arises.
In this article, we will look at:
- why a traditional leasing company might not approve your operative lease,
- in which situations this occurs most often,
- and why with Birne, you can drive even if others have said no.
Choose a car for an operative lease
When a traditional leasing company does not approve your operative lease
Leasing companies have strict internal rules, approval tables, and high demands on applicants' creditworthiness. And as soon as you deviate from these tables, the system says "no."
1. You are a new company without accounting history
If you have just started your business, you don't yet have financial statements, tax returns, or a financial history. A traditional leasing company, however, typically requires at least two accounting periods with a positive economic result.
According to current data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, over 30,000 new companies are established in the Czech Republic annually, and these often need a car right from the start – for example, for deliveries, client visits, or the first order fulfillment.
2. You optimize your accounting as a self-employed person
Many entrepreneurs set up their accounting to minimize their tax burden. This often leads to low official profit or operating loss. And even if the company is viable and its revenues actually cover all costs, in the eyes of a traditional leasing company, you are considered risky.
In the system, you are "not creditworthy" because, on paper, you earn little. No one cares that it's just tax optimization.
3. You have a record in registers or have been through insolvency
Leasing companies routinely consult banking and non-banking registers (CBCB – Czech Banking Credit Bureau, NRKI – Non-Banking Client Information Register). If you have a record there – for instance, due to a delayed payment or an old outstanding debt – the leasing company will often automatically disqualify you.
This also applies to those who have successfully gone through insolvency and are now functioning without problems. Nevertheless, in the eyes of the traditional leasing system, they remain a risky client. According to CBCB and NRKI, there are over 800,000 people with records in the registers in the Czech Republic – including entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals.
4. You are a foreigner without permanent residency or a Czech contract
If you do not have Czech citizenship, permanent residency, or verifiable employment in the Czech Republic, most leasing companies will not include you among approved applicants. Even if you have a high income or legally operate as an individual entrepreneur, approval without Czech history is almost impossible.
According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, over 800,000 foreigners live in the Czech Republic, a significant portion of whom work, do business, or live under temporary residency – and these are often excluded from traditional leasing.
5. You need an operative lease for a shorter period
A classic operative lease is usually set for a minimum of 24 months. If you only need a car for, say, 3 or 6 months – for seasonal operations, a transitional period, a project, or to bridge the waiting period for a new vehicle – the leasing company simply won't make you an offer.
When you need flexibility, the system will only offer you a long-term commitment.
6. You need a car immediately – not in a month
The approval process with a traditional leasing company is usually lengthy. Add long delivery times and tedious paperwork – and you have a problem. If you need a car within 3 days, for example, due to a new order, an accident, or an increase in team staff, traditional leasing usually can't keep up.
Why does it work at Birne?
At Birne, we do things differently. We don't approve based on tables, but on the situation. We believe that if someone needs a car, they should be able to get it quickly, fairly, and without unnecessary obstacles.
How does it work? Simply. Like Netflix or Spotify.
With a traditional leasing company, your car is approved, you sign a contract – and invoices come retrospectively. This means the leasing company takes the risk that someone will stop paying. That's why it controls statements, registers, company history, or citizenship so much.
At Birne, it's different.
With us, you prepay for your car.
Just like Netflix, Spotify, or AlzaPlus – you pay a monthly subscription in advance, and the service runs. No complicated guarantees, no "waiting for approval." You choose a car, pay the first month, and you can drive.
✅ Everything is included in the price: service, insurance, highway vignette, and assistance.
✅ We don't need to laboriously verify creditworthiness – the risk is zero because you pay in advance.
✅ A refundable deposit serves as assurance that the car will be treated with care.
Simple, fair, and without bureaucracy.
Summary: What to do if your lease doesn't go through?
- Don't panic – you're not alone.
- Traditional leasing has its rules, but it's not the only option.
- Try Birne – a service that understands the reality of business.
